SDA Medal (Best Student in Medicine)
Presented in 1971 by Mr and Mrs Lau Kieng Hiong, the Singapore Dental Association Silver Medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of S$ 1000. In 2003, it was agreed that in the event that there is no student eligible for award of a medal, a book prize may be awarded. In 2004 the award was renamed SDA Medal (Best Student in Medicine).
The award is governed by the following conditions:
- The medal is awarded by the board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to the student gaining the highest marks with distinction in Medicine in the Third Professional Examination for the degree of B.D.S. provided he is considered by the Board of Undergraduate Studies to be of sufficient merit.
- In the event that no student is eligible for award of a medal, a book prize may be awarded to the student who obtains the highest mark and an ‘A’ grade for the subject.
- If no award is made in any year, the fund s available will be added to the principal sum.
- This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specially, Statute 7 on Gits to the University and the corresponding Regulation.
Singapore Dental Association Presidents’ Medal
The Singapore Dental Association Presidents’ Medals, one bronze and one silver, are awarded on the following conditions:
- The bronze medal is awarded on the results of the First Professional B.D.S. Examination (main) to the student who is second in the Examination.
- The Silver medal is awarded on the results of the First Professional B.D.S. Examination (main) to the student who is first in the Examination
- The medals are awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners
- No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The first award was made in the academic year 1970-1
University Medal
First donated in 1970 by the Singapore Dental Association, two medals are awarded on the results of the Second Professional B.D.S. Examination (main) as follows:
- The bronze medal to the student who is second in the Examination.
- The silver medal to the student who is first in the Examination.
In 1972, two further medals were made available for award from the proceeds of a capital sum of S$ 1500 donated by Mr Cheah Cheng Kooi. These medals are awarded on the results of the Final Professional B.D.S. Examination (main) as follows:
- The bronze medal to the student who is second in the Examination;
- The silver medal to the student who is first in the Examination.
- The medals are awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners
- No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
