SDA launches the Voluntary Training Framework
The Singapore Dental Association is pleased to introduce the SDA Voluntary Training Framework — a voluntary, supportive framework designed to help dental professionals document their professional development and clinical experience.
The framework provides practical tools including clinical and training logs, peer review, and structured peer assessment.
It is entirely voluntary, with no quotas and no pressure to change your practice for documentation. Members may choose to use the SDA Voluntary Training Framework, the SDC COC framework, or both.
The clinical log, training log and peer review form will be available on the SDA Members` Portal from Wednesday, 5 August 2026. Members may use some of the tools, all of them, or none of them — the choice is yours.
Swipe through to learn more about the framework and how it works.

Dear Members
We refer to the recent SDC circular on the Certificate of Competency for Wisdom Tooth Surgery.
We encourage members to read the circular and its accompanying guidelines closely, and to consider the implications for their own practice.
SDA is studying the framework and will set out its position in due course, drawing on the position paper endorsed by the house.
We are exploring alternative and complementary pathways that can support our members through structured continuing education, mentorship and case-based learning, while recognising different levels of experience within the profession.
If the framework/COC raises specific concerns for your practice, please write to us at feedback@sda.org.sg
Dr Tang Kok Weng

Minimally Invasive Periodontal Therapy Protocols: When is the use of a biomaterial indicated?
Please join the webinar lecture by Dr Marisa Roncati (BS, RDH, DDS) on 27 August 2026 (7-9pm SGT). This lecture presents a series of real clinical cases exploring when biomaterials should, and should not, be used in periodontal and peri-implant therapy. Ten evidence-based clinical cases will be presented with long-term follow up results.
Learning objectives:
(1) Provide clear indications for motivation techniques and strategies that facilitate effective long-term patient involvement, as patient engagement is a key factor influencing the clinical outcomes of any treatment.
(2) Illustrate detailed, step-by-step protocols for the treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases, supported by numerous videos and clinical cases with longitudinal follow-up, all based on scientific evidence.
(3) Specify, elaborate on, and highlight the indications and limitations associated with the use of biomaterials in conjunction with surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy.
With over 35 years of clinical and academic experience, Dr Marisa Roncati is an internationally recognized expert in periodontal and peri-implant disease treatment and laser-assisted procedures – and author of multiple evidence-based books on non-surgical periodontal therapy.
